Adopting from MLCR
We believe successful adoptions start with an understanding of cats’ needs, personality, and the home that will suit them best. Thanks to partnerships with compassionate veterinary providers, our cats receive necessary medical care, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and microchipping, either prior to adoption or at the appropriate time after adoption.
All adoptable cats in our care are listed on Petfinder. Due to how quickly kittens come in and out of our rescue, we ask potential kitten adopters to reach out to us directly, describing the type of kitten or kittens they are hoping to add to the family.
Our Adoption Process
Decide whether you want to add a kitten (under 12 months) or a cat to your family. Young kittens (under 6 months) must be adopted in pairs unless you have another cat in the home.
If you’re interested in a cat or an older kitten, check out our Petfinder listings and choose a cat or two that seems to match what you’re looking for in a new companion. If you’d like a younger kitten or two, think about what type and personality will be the best fit.
Fill out and submit our application, indicating what type of cat or kitten you are seeking, including the specific name of any cat from Petfinder you might want to meet.
Once your application has been received and reviewed by our adoption coordinators, you will be contacted within 48 hours, with a potentially longer delay during weekends and holidays.
We will discuss your application and note any concerns. If approved, we will counsel you on a cat or kitten that might best fit your home. We will then help you make arrangements to meet your potential family member—either in a foster home or at an upcoming adoption event.
If we’ve found a match, we will ask you to fill out our adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. In most circumstances, you will be able to take your new family member home right away.
Adoption Fees
Unlike many shelters, foster-based rescues do not receive funds from city or county governments. MLCR is responsible for all costs related to rescue, intake, transportation, vaccines, spaying and neutering, emergency medical care, and food.
Adoption Fee for Cats (1 year or older): $275
Adoption Fee for Kittens (under 1 year): $315 or $600 for a pair
